A Snapshot

Vidya Dham Samiti was established in 2001 by a very active and dedicated young social worker, Raja Bhaiya, with a group of like-minded youths with commitment to work for the betterment of the downtrodden in the poverty-stricken areas of Bundelkhand.

Even though thousands of crores of rupees are pumped into the area in the name of different packages, Bundelkhand continues to reel under drought and utter negligence by the successive government. Yet the poor and marginalised in this difficult area are highly resilient: they migrate and work as labourers in hazardous stone quarries and mines.

Since its formation, VDS has grown much and has demonstrated capability in working for the realization of rights and entitlements of the poor, especially from marginalized social groups.

VDS has created a good reputation for itself among community members, the NGO fraternity working in the region, the local and regional media and in the district-level administrative system as well.  Several initiatives taken by the NGO have been reported in national dailies and magazines.

Primarily VDS works with socially, economically and politically neglected people including women and children of Bundelkhand region. Main issues of the target area are:

  • Land and livelihood
  • Migration
  • Indebtedness
  • Education
  • No control of women on natural resources
  • Health and nutrition
  • Neglect of marginal groups by the government
  • Low accessibility of government schemes
  • Improper implementation of the special packages
